Serving up delicious, made-to-order food in the heart of Coventry city centre are street-food maestros URBAN. And after launching in Coventry Market in late 2016, they have now brought their wholesome, freshly-made fare to the iconic surroundings of the old Coventry Evening Telegraph (CET) Building.
Run by husband-and-wife team Carlton and Clare, Urban’s menu showcases an eclectic mix of street foods from around the world, including pizzas, burgers, burritios and Caribbean favourites such as jerk chicken. There is also a newly-expanded vegetarian and vegan section, and everything can either be eaten in or taken out to sustain you on-the-go. Best news of all is that what’s on offer here is real food, lovingly cooked-to-order by trained chef Carlton using only the freshest ingredients – many of them locally-sourced from nearby Coventry Market.
Said Clare “Our chicken is marinated for twenty four hours in our secret family recipe jerk sauce, and when we say ‘chicken’, we mean just that! Everything has come from the bird – it’s not pumped full of water.”. And with Urban’s Lunchtime Bonanza of three items for £5 or four for £7 already proving a hit, hearty sandwiches made with sourdough bread will be joining the menu soon.
With its huge number of rooms including some truly breathtaking spaces, Clare is also keen to develop the CET Building’s potential for community use and private events – could this be the ultimate venue for your Coventry Christmas party?
Asked why locals and visitors should choose Urban over some of the city’s better-known names, Clare said “our food is fresh, it’s healthy and it’s very affordable – so why not come and enjoy it in a beautiful building with a great ambience and plenty of opportunity to meet like-minded people”.
Update (June 2018): The CET Building has now closed to the public. URBAN continues to search for new premises.
